On January 22, 2010, Vera Ruth Manuel (Kulilu) passed away peacefully at Vancouver General Hospital at the age of 61 years.

 

Survived by her loving dog U’tspo and 4 loving brothers; Arthur, Richard, George Jr., and Ara;  her 4 loving sisters; Emaline, Doreen, Martha and Ida; and her numerous loving nieces and nephews.

 

Predeceased by her Mother, Marceline Paul, Father, George Manuel Sr, and Brother Robert (Bobby) Manuel.

 

The wake will be held on Sunday, January 24th, 2010 at Martha Manuel’s house located on Neskonlith Indian Reserve #2

 

Funeral Services will be held at the Neskonlith Band Hall on Tuesday, January 26th, 2010 at 10:00 a.m.

    I am sad to hear of Vera’s passing. And, I am so sorry that I am unable to attend the honoring of Vera’s life. Although, I did not know her personally I am very aware of the many good things and good works she did for Indigenous peoples in our communities. Her presence will be greatly missed in the Indigenous arts community.

    It was with great sadness that I heard of the passing of Vera. I worked with her many years ago and was greatly influenced by her strength, compassion and her ability to communicate and teach verbally, through writing and drama. I admired her knowledge and use of her traditions in healing others. She was not afraid to address difficult issues up front. I will never forget her or our friendship. I send my deepest sympathies to all the Manuel family many of you whom I met and her friends.
