The Memorial Service: Celebration of Life

Memorial services are based around celebrating the life of a loved one and provide a safe, social environment for close family and friends to share stories and memories. A Memorial Service can either be a very organized, formal service or a simple gathering of family and close friends.

Cremation or burial usually precedes the service or gathering which is held in the funeral home, church, family home or other location specified by the family. If cremation is chosen, then the family may wish to have the urn present at the service. The celebration can take many forms and offers hope and understanding for all people involved.

A variety of memorial boards incorporating family pictures along with memorabilia and/or treasured items of the deceased are displayed.  Also, families will often choose to have an open microphone for people who wish to share stories and fond memories with everyone. The social support generated by a memorial service comforts those who are suffering while giving them hope to move on.

A reception may follow the service or gathering and interment of the urn usually takes place at a later date.
