The family of Salvatore Marchio wishes to announce the passing of their husband, father and grandfather.
Survived by his loving wife, Ada, of 45 years, and their two children, Carmela Garb and Ross (Michele) Marchio; grandchildren Matthew, Javante and Janae; sisters Giovanna Spagnolo and Caterina Canino of Albi, Italy; sister-in-law Carmela (Umberto) Castagna of Kamloops, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Salvatore was predeceased by his mother Carmela and father Rosario, his sister Maria, his brother Pasquale and sister-in-law Catherine, and his brothers-in law, Salvatore Canino and Nicola Spagnolo.
Born August 1st, 1934, in Albi, Catanzaro, Italy, Salvatore immigrated to Kamloops in 1961. He decided that he wanted to get married, so won a young girl’s heart he remembered back in Albi. Ada joined him in Kamloops in 1964, and married him thirteen days after stepping off the train. Salvatore worked at Balco Industries, then Tolko Industries, and was a member of the IWA until his retirement in 1991.
Salvatore had a smile and kind words for everyone. He was well-known downtown, and he loved to stop and talk a minute with so many friends when he was out walking. He loved to share tomatoes, lettuce and fruit from his garden, or wine from his cellar, with family, friends and neighbours. Most important to him though was his family, and he had a special place in his heart for all the children. His grandchildren could do no wrong in his eyes, and there were always many candies in his pockets for them.
The family would like to express our sincere thanks to the Kamloops RCMP, Search & Rescue, the local media outlets, and the many friends and volunteers who spent countless hours searching for Salvatore.
Prayers will be recited on Friday, April 16, 2010, at 6:00 pm, at the Sacred Heart Cathedral. The Reverend Father Derrick Cameron will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial at the cathedral on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at 10:00 am. Entombment will follow at the Sage Valley Mausoleum.
Should friends desire, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of BC, Box 277, Kamloops, BC V2C 5K6 in memory of Salvatore would be much appreciated

I worked at the down town Safeway and always looked forword to servering Mr.Marchio. He was kind and always a smile on his face. So sorry for your loss. Margaret
I met Salvatore when I took the Cancer Car down to Kelowna. He was a wonderful friendly man – we often had a laugh or two. When I met him on the street after my treatment, he would give me a hug and a smile.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all
Sincerely

Dear Marchio Family,
Our deepest condolescences to you all during this difficult time. We were desperately hoping Salvatore would return home or be found well, as were you all and the community of Kamloops as a whole. How commendable your tireless efforts are and were.
I offer you this prayer and hope that you are able to find some level of solace in the days to come………

I give you this one thought to keep,
I am with you still – I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush,
I am the sweet uplifting rush,
of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night,
Do not think of me as gone –
I am with you still in each new dawn.
I wish you peace……
Sincerely,
Patricia Zerr and Family
To the Marchio family.
I’m so very profoundly sorry for your loss. I cannot imagine how difficult this extraordinary time has been for your family. Our family has known the Marchio family for so long, since we were children playing together. I am deeply saddened by these circumstances and for what this family has endured.
May Salvatore rest in peace knowing he did a wonderful job being a caring and loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.
I wish your family love and peace.
