Rolande (Rollie) Elizabeth McIntosh
(née Chalifoux)
On September 20, 2010, Mrs. Rolande (Rollie) McIntosh passed away peacefully at Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice at the age of 83 years. She is survived by her six children, daughters Bonnie (David Scott) of Comox, BC and Margaret (Ivan Christensen) of Leduc, AB; sons, Gordon (Julie) of New Westminster, BC, George (Cathy) of Kamloops, BC, Bill (Stephanie) of Logan Lake, BC and Tom of Regina, SK; thirteen grandchildren, Jennifer, Christian (Aurora), Shawna (Brad), Brent (Andrea), Megan (Bhodie), Hilary, Amy (Sam), Kevin, Erik (Kristin), Joe, Chris, Erin and Daniel; and seven great grandchildren, Alix, Cloe, Nolan, Lauren, Emma, Adam and Lucia. Rollie was born in Morinville, Alta in 1926. She was the fifth of ten children of a French Canadian family that traces its roots back to 17th century New France. While working in Edmonton she met and married Douglas McIntosh in 1948. Doug and Rollie raised their six children in a number of communities in AB and BC, finally settling in Kamloops in 1968. With her children grown she went back to work with the City of Kamloops as a cashier at Macdonald Park and Westsyde Pool where her kind approach and understanding of young people earned her the respect of all who met her. She retired in 1992 and enjoyed many summers at their trailer at Little Shuswap Lake. After 60 years of marriage Douglas predeceased her in 2008. The family would sincerely like to thank the staff at Kamloops Seniors Village as well as the nurses and staff of RIH 7 North and Hospice House for their loving and supportive care. There will be no formal service by request. Should friends desire, donations may be made to the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice or the RIH Foundation.
Rollie was the mother of our Westsyde Pool “family”. She will always be remembered for her great stories, her advise and her wonderful sense of humour. Always missed but never forgotten.
We send you all our sincere regrets in the loss of your beloved mother. She will be missed by many people.
