Robbie Charles Fry, PhD
1961-2011
With profound sadness we announce the passing of our darling Robbie on August 31st in Kamloops, B.C. Canada.
Robbie was born January 29, 1961 to Bob and Pauline Fry in Oshawa, Ontario. He remained close to his big sister Kim (Ramsey) throughout his life. Robbie’s inquisitive personality resulted in his pursuit of a career in mathematics. He excelled in his field, publishing numerous papers, and continued to work with colleagues in Canada and abroad until very shortly before his passing. In addition, Robb was a much loved teacher, who mentored many students into their mathematical careers. Robbie was unique in that he was not only a brilliant mathematician, but he was also a creative songwriter, and artist. Robbie’s life was enriched by many treasured friendships. Robb and Pamela (née Genn) were married on June 19th, 2000 and in October of 2003 they welcomed their beautiful daughter, Georgia, into their family. From the moment she was placed in his arms, Georgia was the light of his life. Robbie will be deeply missed by his wife and daughter, as well as close family and friends.
For consistent caring, generosity of spirit, and the respect and dignity shown to Robbie, his family wishes to thank his physicians: Drs. Bruce Newmarch, Alexandra Gabriel, and Isabel Barnard, the Royal Inland Hospital Cancer Clinic, all the lovely folks on 6 South, and the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Memorial Hospice Home. In addition, his colleagues at Thompson Rivers University are to be thanked for their love and support. Very special thanks to Laura Genn for too many things to name, and also to our dear neighbours: Martin, Jeannie, Josh and Jessica Brace. In lieu of flowers, please give generously to the Canadian Cancer Society.
A light has gone out. And a bright bright light it was. Peace to Robb’s beloveds.
Jennifer
I’m deeply saddened to hear of Rob’s passing. I have so many memories of laughter, unique Halloween costumes, art, and crazy dalmatians. My deepest condolences to Pam, Georgia and the rest of his family. Heather
I am so sorry. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, Pamela.Nina
The courage and optimism that my cousin, Robb, showed during our visit with him at the Oshawa hospital was truly inspirational. We thought we were going to lift his spirits and some how Robb lifted ours.
I only knew Robb from a few meetings, but will never forget his uplifting nature. All the best to Pamela and Georgia. I am very sorry about your loss.

Pam, Georgia, and family, I’m so sorry to hear of Robb’s passing. He was an unforgettable man, you’d meet him once and always remember his huge personality. During my time at UNBC he was a huge part of our circle, and I’ll always remember his laugh and his spirit. I wish you peace and comfort in this time and in the times ahead.
We were most surprised and sorry to hear of Robert’s passing. Our most sincere condolences to you Pamela and also to Georgia.
I’ll never be able to hear any word ending in ‘er/’im without hearing Robb’s voice: “pok-er? I didn’t even know her!” from so many fun nights playing cards at UNBC and in Antigonish. Robb is one of the most thoughtful and generous people I’ve ever known. His quirky sense of humour and friendship will be greatly missed. Our deepest sympathies to Pamela, Georgia and the rest of Robb’s family. Peace and love to you all.

One of those people who I hadn’t talked to in 12 years but I still remember the conversations. A favourite of mine from university years. Such a fun and interesting person, RIP Robb. Sad that cancer took him so young. My thoughts are with Pamela, Georgia and all his family and friends.

Dear Pamela and Georgia, I am very sorry to hear about Robb…my sincere condolences.
I knew him as Robb and he willingly contributed to our provincial mathematics meetings with wise counsel and infectious humour. For me, it was his music-the sincerity and passion that he committed to his songs every time. At our customary Greek dinner, he last graced us with this unique talent in 2007 at our meeting in Whitehorse. Despite physical complications, he remembered to bring his guitar knowing I would ask. We will greatly miss him!
I haven’t seen Robb since O’Neill Collegiate High School in Oshawa in the 70′s … he and I teamed up for an acoustic guitar duo and vocal in the “folk club” …… We were good friends and he had great senses of music and humor even back then …… condolences to all from Courtice ON…. Pamela and georgia;
We would like to express our condolences to both of you on Robb’s passing. We remember his stay in Antigonish well and he was a well respected member of the department and easy to work with. I am sure you will really miss him after all these years of being together.
