Peter Geoffrey Dwyer

Peter Dwyerpeter-dwyer

Suddenly and unexpectedly, Peter passed away on Sunday June 27, 2010 in his home in Kamloops.

He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Cheryl; his daughters Jessica and Jamie of Australia; his sister Cheryl, niece Helena, nephews Mathew, Jason and Scott, step mother Bonnie and numerous aunts and uncles, all of Australia.

Peter was predeceased by his mother Bessie, his sister Pam, and father Geoff.

Peter was born on September 7, 1956 in Sydney, NSW.  He started his career in the gaming industry in 1982 in Australia.  The unique nature of his job allowed him to work and travel in many locations around the world including South Africa, Swaziland, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Vanuatu,  North America and Holland. He truly enjoyed the work that he did and the people that he met in his work and travels.  He was very honored to have “mates” all over the world. He was also very proud of the work that he and his team delivered in BC to provide a comfortable, exciting environment for Casino guests.

It was a work project in Casino Regina that brought Peter and Cheryl together.  After several trips between Canada and Australia, the long distance romance culminated in job opportunities for both Peter and Cheryl with BC Lottery Corp.  Peter immigrated to Canada in 2001 and started his new life and career in Kamloops.  Peter and Cheryl married in 2002; Peter proudly became a Canadian citizen in December 2006.

Peter’s piece of paradise was the cabin on Deka Lake where he spent as much time as he could finishing the house (and celebrating those accomplishments with the odd Bud or two), fishing, ATVing, visiting with friends, “putzing” and relaxing.  He was looking forward to spending many more days and months in retirement at his beloved cottage.

Peter will be deeply missed by his wife Cheryl, and “the boys” Digby and Higgins who wait patiently at the top of the stairs for Peter to come home.

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Schoening Funeral Chapel, 513 Seymour Street.

Should friends desire, donations to the SPCA, 1211 – 8th Street, Kamloops, B.C. V2B 2Y3 in memory of Peter Dwyer would be appreciated.
