On Sunday, March 25, 2012 Mr. Ronald Victor Ross passed away at the age of 66 years. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife Jan and his daughter Karen (Jason) Weisgarber. He also leaves to cherish his memory Jan’s children Ken (Lorri) Wilson, Linda (Matt) Martin and Lisa Ross-Marshall, four grandchildren Bella Ross-Marshall, Ryan Wilson, Alyssa Martin and Heather Martin, his sister Ranita Brown and brother Dale Ross.
Ron will be missed by all our loving friends and neighbours in Kamloops and Vancouver and his brother in law Bob Bernard and all his wonderful friends from school and his many motorcycle friends, Floyd and Charmaine Stevens and Jim Charmichael.
He was predeceased by son Kristen Ross and sister Val Bernard.
Thank you to all the wonderful care givers at Kamloops Senior Village, Dr. K. Boughton and Dr. J. O’Connell for all their help and kindness. Also thanks to Tara at the Alzheimer’s Society for all her support.

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dad, Rudy Buffie.
Rudy was born December 13, 1928 in Winnipeg, MB and passed away in Kamloops, BC on March 23, 2012 with his loving family by his side.
Rudy is survived by his children Bob, Linda (Mike) Monteith, Randy, Tommy, Laurie (Joe) Kurylowich, Lisa (Gerry) Hodgkiss and Lianne; his grandchildren and great grandchildren Melissa (Andrew) Walker and their children Patrick, Ali, Lynden and Ryleigh; Alexis (Martyn), Michael (Jen), Chris (Melissa), Kevin, Spencer, Taryn (Tyler), Colton (Jenna), Nikki and Paige all of whom he loved dearly. Also left to cherish his memory are his brothers Albert and Johnny, his sisters Ruth (his twin), Rosemaire, Joyce, Gertrude and Marlene and their families.
The family would like to acknowledge his very dear friend and sidekick Sho Tabata.
Rudy was predeceased by his beloved wife Margaret of 48 years in 1998. He is also predeceased by his parents and nine siblings, as well as his dear lifelong friend John Fial who was like another brother to our dad.
Rudy enjoyed playing and coaching baseball and was an avid hockey referee during his younger years. Later on, he spent time lawn bowling, curling and attending the dances at Corttonwood Manor, but it was the time spent with his children and grandchildren that he cherished most.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Rudy’s many friends, the staff at Ridgeview Lodge, especially Christina and Kailee who always went above and beyond. Thank you as well to the nurses of 6th South at Royal Inland Hospital for their compassionate care during our dad’s final days.

SHIRLEY VIVIAN FORTIN
1935 – 2012
On March 19, 2012 Shirley passed away with family and friends at her side. She is survived by her daughter Jodie (Barry) Bacon, son Dean Fortin (Donna Sanford); four grandchildren David, Ryan, Sophie and Jing-Ru; as well as her brother Gerald (Marilyn) Kennedy and many nieces, nephews and extended family. She was predeceased by her son Timothy in 1963.
Shirley‘s career started with graduation from Royal Inland Hospital Nursing School in 1956. In 1966 till retirement she enjoyed the delivery room area where she rose to the position of Head Nurse of the ward. Shirley had a passion and love for her family, relatives and friends. Her home and heart was always open to her children’s and grandchildren’s friends, many who were unofficially adopted into the clan.
In her early years she loved playing ball and started many little league careers. Later in life she loved playing golf. She supported her favourite charities, the SPCA and World Vision.
In lieu of flowers, donations to these organizations are welcomed.
A Memorial Tea will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. in the Summit Drive Baptist Church, 1975 Summit Drive, Kamloops.
Hanna (Hanako) Kurisu passed peacefully away on March 22, 2012 at Pine Grove Care Centre, her home for almost eight years. She would have been 89 on April 27th.
Hanna was predeceased by her parents and her siblings Takeshi, Terry, Sam, Ruby and Jim. She is survived by her sister Chiyeko of Toronto as well as her nieces and nephews.
Private entombment will take place in the Evergreen Mausoleum.
Flowers and Koden gratefully declined.

WALTER GUCWA
June 3, 1925 –March 20, 2012
Mr. Walter George Gucwa passed away on March 20, 2012, at 86 years of age.
He is survived by his loving wife Frances (nee Partridge), his only son John (Deborah) and grandchildren Jessica and Elizabeth. Walter immigrated to Canada from Poland after World War II and settled in Kamloops with Frances where they raised their family. He worked for Canadian National Railway for 35 years in the B&B Division.
Some of his favourite activities were gardening, bowling and golfing. He and mom loved their bingo and spent many happy hours there. He was a member of the ANAVETS club where he loved to socialize and play crib with friends.
He loved his many pets, especially his cat Puddles. Walter was a kind, quiet man with a great sense of humour. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
A Graveside service will be held at Pleasant Street Cemetery on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Harry Bicknell officiating.
MIKE SEMOGRAD
On Thursday, March 15, 2012 Mr. Mike Johnaten Semograd passed away peacefully at Ridgeview Lodge, Kamloops at the age of 93 years. He is survived by his daughter Brenda Flinn of Vernon, his sons Harvey of Red Deer, Alberta, Norman (Barb) of Williams Lake, BC and Dean (Sandra) of Kamloops; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Mike was predeceased by his wife Esther in 2006, son Brent in 1988 and daughter Altheia in 1960.
Mr. Semograd was born on October 2, 1918 in Chipman, Alberta. He has made his home in Kamloops for the past 21 years.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the Renaissance Retirement Residence, Ponderosa Lodge, Ridgeview lodge and the emergency at Royal Inland Hospital for the care given to Mike.
The Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, March 25, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Schoening Funeral Chapel, 513 Seymour Street with Pastor Bill Kelly officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.

Richard (Dick) Knorr
June 12, 1925 – March 17, 2012
Predeceased by his wife Marie, Dad is survived by his life partner Ruth and her family; his brother Jack and sisters Nona, Evelyn and Margaret; his children Dick (Harlene), Gaye (Albert), Tony (Anna) and Linda (Ken) and numerous nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
In his early years, Dad worked as a ranch hand, guide outfitter and forest ranger. He joined the Operating Engineers in 1952 and was a proud member for the rest of his life.
His construction career took him all over the province and he worked on many pipeline, road and dam projects.
At home he took great pride in his garden, especially his roses. His generosity and wit will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of life for Dad will be held on Friday, May 18, 2012 at the Moose Lodge, 730 Cottonwood Avenue at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated in Dad’s memory to the Kamloops Hospice Society, 72 Whiteshield Crescent S., Kamloops, BC V2E 2S9.
Our family would like to thank the staff at the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice Home for the care and compassion they gave to dad, especially Erin.
On Friday, March 16, 2012 Mrs. Henrietta Barry passed away peacefully at Kamloops at the age of 77 years. She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 59 years, Jack, her two daughters Linda of Kamloops and Dawnawyn (Don) Edwards of Kelowna; her five grandchildren John, Leah, Bryan, Sharon and Bill and two great grandchildren Dade and Eli. Also left to cherish her memory are her two brothers Ed and Andrew.
Henrietta was predeceased by her father Bruno, mother Rose and brother Joe.
Born and raised in North Star, Alberta on May 8, 1934. She moved to Calgary and there she met and married Jack Barry. They moved to Kamloops in 1965 where they worked and raised their family, living here since.
The Reverend Father Vincent Asomugha will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, March 22, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in Sacred Heart Cathedral. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.

BERTHA NELSON
March 21, 1921 – March 16, 2012
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bertha Lorraine Nelson with her family by her side. Bertha was predeceased by her husband Jim, son Ken, sister Freda brother Bill and her great grandson Colton. She is survived by her children Noreen (George), Pat (Leta), Dan (Wanda) and Kandi (Dwight); thirteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Also left to cherish her memory are her siblings Frank (Ester), Riley (Millie), Helen, Royden and Winnie as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Bertha was born in Didsbury, Alberta. She lived at the Renaissance Retirement Residence for five years then at Ponderosa Lodge for a short stay. Thanks to all the caring staff at the Renaissance and Ponderosa Lodge. Her final days were at Royal Inland Hospital. Our family would like to thank Dr. Waller for his care and concern.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved sister and little Auntie, Mary Elaine Abate of Kamloops, B.C. She passed away peacefully, at home, on March 14, 2012, at the age of 55.
Mary is survived by her loving sister and caretaker Pina Del Medico, nieces Joanna (Russell) Pierrot, Elaine (John) Nunez, Nadeen Abate, and nephews John (Doris) Del Medico and Darryl Abate. She also leaves to cherish her memory the following great-nieces and nephews: John-Jose, Daniel, Natalie, Talia, Bryden, Kiana, Wyatt, Wade and her favourite sister-in-law Nancy (Brian) McKinnon.
Mary was predeceased by her father Frank, her mother Aquila and her brothers Arthur and Ray Abate.
Mary was a sweet, loving, sensitive soul that loved life and brought a smile to everyone she met. Simple things like singing and playing with her nieces and nephews, who gave her unconditional endless love, brought her much joy. We know that Mary is in a peaceful place now and we will always cherish the beautiful memories she gave us.
We would like to thank very much, Dr. Tom Eccelston and the ladies from High Country for their compassion and kindness, and an especially warm thanks to Mary’s favourite caretaker, Gerda, for her exceptional care.
The Reverend Father Peter Nguyen will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church on Saturday, March 24th, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will follow in Evergreen Mausoleum.
