Andrew Albert Moes

On January 1st, 2012 Andrew Moes passed away suddenly near Kamloops BC at the age of 25. He is survived by the love of his life Katie Morgan, his loving parents Rick and Chris Moes of Woodstock, Ontario, his brother Eric (Karis), his sister Sarah (Kevin), his best friend Chris and his precious pooch Layla.
Andrew’s cowboy boots and anything plaid were his attire – Carhartts a must. He called himself Uncle Awesome to little nephew Ethan. The great outdoors defined Andrew as a person. He was a man’s man from taking apart his dirt bike in the guest room to starting his four foot chainsaw in the kitchen. He had all the toys every guy would want and whether he was on his quad, his skiis or his truck, he was always looking for his next big adventure.
For Andrew life was an adventure, no issue was ever too big – he took everything in stride and with a bit of humor. He taught everyone around him the importance to relax about the small stuff and to plan for the big picture- the future. No matter where he went or what situation he was in he always met people with kindness and a huge warm smile.
A Celebration of Andrew’s Life will take place on Saturday, January 7th, 2012 at Summit Drive Baptist Church, 1975 Summit Drive, Kamloops V2E 2K7 at 11:00 am followed by a lunch. All are welcome to join and feel free to bring a little bit of Andrew whether it’s in plaid, boots or a story.
He touched the souls of many, changed the lives of others and will
be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.

Gloria Lorraine Milliard

Gloria L. Milliard
October 14, 1930 – December 30, 2011
Gloria completed her last figure 8 on December 30, 2011.
We are saddened to announce the passing of our mother and grandmother on December 30, 2011. Gloria was predeceased by her husband John, and daughter in law, Helen. Left to mourn her passing are her two sons, Greg Milliard and Randy (Shelley) Milliard. She was affectionately known as ‘’Ammi’’ to her three grandchildren whom she adored, Dhanell (Cole) Tymchuk, Wyatt (Sarah) Milliard and Kyle (Leanne) Milliard. She also leaves behind two great-grandchildren, Ava and Jace Tymchuk.
Gloria was born in Boston, Mass. and raised in Port Arthur, Ontario. She came west as a young girl to pursue her career as a professional figure skating coach. Her first stop was Vancouver and then to Kamloops in 1951 to accept the position of assistant pro at Mount Paul Figure Skating Club. She met the love of her life in Kamloops, John Milliard. They were married in 1952. Both Gloria and John’s passion was on the ice – he a hockey player and she a figure skating coach. It was a match made in heaven!! Gloria was instrumental in starting the Valleyview Figure Skating Club. She also coached in Salmon Arm, Vernon and Revelstoke. Gloria’s career spanned 4 decades before she retired from coaching in 1981. Her dedication to her students and to her sport will never be forgotten. One only had to look at the achievements of her skaters to see her results. She still has skating programs dating back to 1952! There was a card left on her bedside table this past Christmas, it said ‘’ Thank-you for teaching so many young folks to skate. Kamloops was lucky to have you!’’ Gloria will be nominated for induction into the Kamloops Sports Hall of Fame. Even as Alzheimer’s took hold, Gloria could still remember a face as one she had coached 40 years earlier!
Gloria lived a rich and fulfilling life – leaving a legacy her children and grandchildren can be very proud of. She was a gifted artist, having taken up painting after her retirement from skating. Many of us have the pleasure of one of her paintings hanging in our homes. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed her home on Glenwood Drive for over 40 years. We will never watch a Canuck hockey game without thinking of her – she was one of their biggest fans!!
We will be forever grateful to the special angels of Ridgeview Lodge. They showed such care, compassion and love towards our Mom. To her neighbours on Glenwood Drive, thank-you for your friendship and looking out for Mom.
A celebration of Gloria’s life will be held on Thursday January 5th, 2012 at 10:00 am at Schoening Funeral Chapel. She will be laid to rest beside her husband John at Hillside Cemetery.

Harold Watson Andersen

After a full and active well lived life, Harold “Hal” W. Andersen, died peacefully on December 28, 2011 at Kamloops Seniors Village in Kamloops, B.C.
Hal is survived by his loving wife Joyce and many children, 3 sons and 2 stepsons, Michael (Jane) of Keremeos, Robin (Gail) of Edmonton, Mark of Lethbridge, Greg (Ingrid) of Salmon Arm, Brad (Anna Maria) of Williams Lake and 4 daughters and 1 stepdaughter, Janice (Tony) of Nanaimo, Carol (Ken) of Vernon, Karen of Kelowna, Alice (Lyle) of Penticton and Carolyn (Greg) of Kamloops. Also left to cherish his memory are his 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Hal was predeceased by all of his brothers and sisters, son Shawn and grandson Nicholas.
Hal was born on November 22, 1929 at Erin Lodge, Alberta. He resided there with his family, including 3 brothers and 2 sisters until they all relocated to BC, where he graduated high school in North Vancouver. As a young man of 17 years, he enlisted in the Navy as a bugler, where it was one of his many responsibilities as a Navy Officer to organize, attend and play the Last Post at military funerals. He finished his career in the Navy as a second class petty officer then transferred to the Air Force as a sergeant. After many years of dedicated service he retired as a Master Warrant Officer. During this time, he lived in Nova Scotia, Calgary and finally relocating to the Similkameen Valley where he fulfilled his dream of building a log house. This is where he and Pat raised their family. He had so many happy memories and stories of Keremeos that he shared with all of us over the years. Hal was an active member of the Lions Club and very proud of being named Lion of the year in 1977-78 for outstanding service, loyalty and devotion. From there, he moved to Kamloops where he met his wife Joyce. They were married in Kelowna and soon after, settled in Grand Forks. After many years, they returned to Kamloops on his 81st birthday to be closer to family and friends. It didn’t take Hal long to be lured to the bells and whistles of the casino that he found so much enjoyment. He was a lucky man and had many prosperous “paydays” over the last year. He lived his life like everyday was the last. He had a love for the water and the outdoors, spending much of his life fishing, hunting and camping. Later in life, Hal and Joyce spent much of their time fishing on the ocean and many lakes, with Quesnel Lake at Likely, B.C. being one of his favourites. As much as he loved the outdoors, equally he loved getting dressed up and taking everyone out for dinner to a fine dining restaurant, or jumping in the motorhome and taking off for a travelling adventure with Joyce, both of them singing and “munching” their way down the highway. He helped anyone in need, whether it be financial, or a few words of advice, even when you thought you didn’t need them. His greatest love was watching the grandkids grow up and spoiling them all the way. And most recently his great grandchildren, finding so much joy in all of the babies.
A Celebration of Hal’s life will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at 1:00pm in the Schoening Funeral Chapel
In lieu of flowers, a donation made to a charity of your choice in Hal’s name would be appreciated.
