Margaret Louise Nordgren
Margaret Louise Nordgren passed away February 29, 2012, in Delta, B.C. at the age of 86, after a long illness. Margaret was born in Vancouver on February 27, 1926 to Frank and Florence Hill. She was predeceased by her husband Eric in 1991, her son Ken in 2004, her sister Hazel and brothers Jack, Tom and Guy. She is survived by her daughter Linda and her sons John (Brenda) and Wilf (Heather), Ken’s wife Wendy, John’s first wife Rita McKay, 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Nan Hill and Anna Small. Margaret’s early days were spent in various locations in B.C. where her father, and later her brothers, could find work. Their time in the Cariboo running the Rose Lake Lodge was among her fondest memories growing up. While her brothers “cowboyed” on neighbouring ranches, Margaret and Hazel worked at the Lodge and it was here she acquired her lifelong love of horses. It was later while living in Hope that she met a Swedish logger, Eric, the love of her life and “the most handsome man I ever met” at a dance. They were married June 22, 1947. They settled in their permanent home in Kamloops in 1952 where they enjoyed a full and happy life with their many friends and family in the area. They were both active members of the Lions Club, Kamloops Fish and Game Club and the West Vikings. Their service to charities and their community was recognized through their charter membership in the North Kamloops Lions Club. Eric retired in 1984 and they enjoyed several years of leisure, travelling, fishing and hunting together until Eric became ill. He died in 1991 and Margaret soldiered on with the support of friends and family and the escapes with her horse, Beau and her beautiful dog, Willow. Arriving at her house always meant enjoying fresh baking and wonderful home-cooked meals. True to her nature, Margaret became a strong support for her sisters-in-law after the loss of their husbands. In 2001 after 75 vital and healthy years, Margaret moved to Delta where John, Linda and families could see her frequently and where travel access for Ken, Wilf and their families enabled their visits. The family would like to thank all of her doctors and caregivers, most recently the staff at Annieville House and the staff at Northcrest Care Centre who cared for our Mom with loving kindness and support.
A Celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in the Schoening Funeral Chapel, 513 Seymour Street.
