It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Magda Pavdy on March 26, 2010.
She is predeceased by her husband Frank, brother Julius and son Istvan. She leaves behind, to mourn her passing, her daughter Marika and son-in-law Bruce (Tasaka) along with many relatives in Hungary and friends all over the world.
Magda was born on November 7, 1921 in Hungary. She and her small family escaped from Hungary in early 1957 and set up home in England until 1971, when she and her husband Frank immigrated to Victoria, B.C. Canada. They remained in Victoria until 1993 and then moved to Tsawwassen to be close to their only daughter. After Frank passed away in 1995 Magda moved to Ladner. In 2009 Magda moved to Kamloops and lived at Berwick on the Park.
Magda was active in the Hungarian Society of Victoria, where she sang in the choir and was often seen making langos on Canada Day in Centennial Square. When she moved to Tsawwassen she joined a choir there and played Canasta whenever she had the chance.
Magda was a fantastic cook and she loved to feed people. She was a wonderful wife and mother. She was generous to a fault, thoughtful, kind and fun to be around.
We would like to thank Dr. Peter Gorman and all the staff at Berwick on the Park for helping to make Magda comfortable and happy in the last few months of her life.
A memorial service and Liturgy of the Word will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, March 31st, 2010 in the Schoening Funeral Chapel. Interment will take place in Victoria, on a yet to be determined date.
Should friends desire donations made in Magda’s name to the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice Home, 72 Whiteshield Crescent South, Kamloops, B.C. V2E 2S9 or the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 203-635 Victoria St., Kamloops, B.C.V2C 2B8 would be appreciated.
To Magda’s family:
My deepest sympathy to you all. I considered Magda a true friend and when I called her she always said, “hello my darling Helen”. I met Magda first when I joined the Kinsmen singers in 1996 and Magda was a very strong member of the alto section. We became friends and I often gave her a ride to rehearsals and sing-outs, when we shared family stories. I have a copy of a video that Marika took of the Kinsmen Singers when we performed at the Tsawwassen Mall one Christmas. As a volunteer with Meals on Wheels and Deltassist, I had the privilege of talking with Magda often. I am saddened at her passing, but also I know that her latter years were distressful for her as her health declined. I will miss her and will hold her and you, her family, in my prayers.
With love and sympathy from myself and on behalf of all the volunteers and staff at the Seniors Office of Deltassist.
Helen Stevens
