Jacqueline Joan Haupt

hauptOn March 9, 2010, Mrs. Jacqueline Joan Haupt (nee Smedley) passed away peacefully at the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice Home in Kamloops, BC at the age of 68 years.

Jacque is survived by her loving husband Larry, daughters Jodi (Murray) Beamish of Trail, BC and Heidi (Lawrence) Cheung of Edmonton, AB and son Dennis (Tracy) of Kamloops.  She will be remembered by her grandchildren Matthew Beamish, Avery and Oliver Cheung; also by her sister Gwen Booy, her brothers Bruce (Veronica) Smedley and George (Karen) Smedley and her cousin Brian Dopson.

Jacqueline is predeceased by her father and mother Jack and Joan Smedley and her grandson Nathan Beamish.

Jacque was born in Williams Lake, BC.  Her family later moved to Trail, BC where she graduated from JL Crowe High School.  She moved to Kamloops in 1968 with daughter Jodi and began work at Agriculture Canada, where she met Larry.  In 1972 they eloped to the Hitchin’ Post in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.  Her bouquet was a sheaf of wheat gathered in a nearby field.  After Heidi and Dennis were born she went back to work, this time with the Ministry of Social Services.  Jacque worked with the Ministry until 1993 when she was first diagnosed with cancer.  After years of remission she was again struck with cancer and taken from us.

Jacque loved to quilt and visit with her many friends from quilting.  She was an avid reader and enjoyed sketching and learning to paint water colours.  Her creations have enriched us all in many ways.  The greatest thing we will miss is being greeted by her beautiful smile.

There will be no funeral service by request.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice Home, 72 Whiteshield Crescent S., Kamloops, BC  V2E 2S9 or the Royal Inland Hospital Foundation, Cancer Services Fund, 311 Columbia Street, Kamloops, BC

V2C 2T1.

The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to Dr. Avanessian, the staff at Royal Inland Hospital and the staff at Kamloops Hospice Home.  Their wonderful care sustained both Jacque and Larry, and the family, over many years.

  1. Bill & Bev English says:

Bev and I extend our deepest sympathy. She will indeed be missed.

I worked with Jacque at Social Services. She was a great pleasure to be around and hugely competent at her job.

Jacque and I always enjoyed ribbing each other about being born in Williams Lake only days apart and how they had to kick me out of the hospital so Jacque could arrive and have the room.

    All our very best.
    Bill and Bev

I went to school with Jackie starting in grade seven in Trail Junior High. The last time I ran into Jackie was at Art Knapps in Kamloops a little over a year ago and she was sorry she couldn’t make it to our JLC reunion. She mostly spoke of her loving, caring husband who was her rock and of her amazing family who was always there for her. She looked beautiful as usual, was positive and did not complain about the situation she was in. I am so very sorry to hear about her passing and send my deepest sympathy to her family including Gwen who I haven’t seen in many years. Anne
