Tips for Preparing a Eulogy

Writing a few fond memories or describing special moments shared with a loved one is often times a lot easier said than done. In times of grief, communicating emotions and memories can be a very difficult task. However, with a little assistance and organization, a eulogy can be an extremely rewarding, honorable and poignant tribute to a loved one. Here are a few helpful guidelines:

  • What one adjective would you use to describe him/her?

  • Did he/she have any particular loves or hobbies?

  • Did he/she enjoy any particular songs, poems or performers?

  • If you could name one value or lesson he/she most wanted to teach the next generation, what would it be?

  • What one achievement or accomplishment would make his/her eyes light up when you mentioned it?

  • What where some of his/her favorite sayings?

  • Was there a cause or movement that he/she felt deeply about and supported with his/her time and resources?

  • If he/she could have me (or you) say one thing during the funeral, what do you think it would be?

  • Why do you think this world is a little different because of him/her?
