April 1, 1947-January 26, 2012
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Fred Walker on January 26, 2012, with his wife by his side, at the Royal Inland Hospital at the age of 64 years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nerine; daughters Nadine Walker-Perry (Marvin), and Olivia Finn (Sean). He is also survived by his brother James Walker (Jeanne) and his sister Mary Jenneson (Les), his brother-in-law Errol Hendricks (Joy), and his sister-in-law Estelle Hendricks. He will be missed by his nieces, nephews and numerous friends.
He was predeceased by his mother, Mary, his father Fred, and his brother-in-law Brian Hendricks.
Fred was born on April 1, 1947. As a young man in Vancouver, he enjoyed racing, restoring and showing cars, as well as boating, and dirt biking. In 1974, Fred and Nerine moved to Kamloops where he continued his career in the HVAC industry. Here they raised their family, and continued to enjoy Kamloops activities such as watching the Kamloops Blazers, attending Western Canada Theatre Company productions, and spending wonderful summers at the Shuswap Lake.
One of Fred’s favourite quotes was “From Good Only Comes Good,” and he lived his life showing goodness, generosity, kindness and respect to everyone he met. As a husband and father he gave unconditional love and support to his family. Fred had a great sense of humour, which is one of his many qualities that family and friends will remember him by. In his professional life, Fred was dedicated to achieving his very best for his clients in the industry, always willing to help others.
The family wishes to thank the Emergency service team, doctors, nurses and staff at the Royal Inland Hospital for their professionalism and kindness, and to family and friends for their love and continued support.
The Memorial Service/Celebration of Life will be at 1:00 pm on Thursday February 2, 2012 at Schoening Funeral Home, 513 Seymour Street. A reception will follow the service.
Should friends desire, donations in Fred’s memory to the Royal Inland Hospital Foundation, or a Kamloops charity of your choice would be appreciated.

Mom passed away peacefully with her family at her side January 17, 2012. I am sure dad was waiting with open arms, once again reunited with his “Violet.”
Mom was born April 20, 1923 in Beausejour Manitoba: to Joseph and Mary Owsianski, she was the third youngest of 9 children.
Mom is survived by daughters Dawn (Rod) Killough and Debbie (Lloyd) Cooper of Kamloops. Grandchildren Dr Russet (Bill) Jones, Jeremy (Angie) Killough, Bree (Ethan) Kozak, Dustin (Tom) Zuraw, Matthew (Shelby) Killough, Graham Cooper and 10 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers Hank (Fran) Owsianski from Mission BC and Cas (Eileen) Owsianski Victoria BC.
She was predeceased by her husband Jim, son Doug (Fr James) and grandson Marvin.
Mom and Dad were married for 67 yrs and lived most of their life in Castlegar BC, moving to Kamloops in 2006 to be closer to their girls.
Once we were all in school mom helped out at a kindergarten, and started bowling and golfing. Mom and dad were very active with the McMixer square dance club and when dad retired he joined mom on the golf course and cross-country skiing. When camping season arrived you would find them at Christina Lake, and in the later years traveling throughout BC in their motor home.
Gardening was one of mom’s passions, she was so proud of her little garden at Bedford Manor. She loved to sit outside in the evening watching the birds in the birdbath that she faithfully kept filled.
Mom was a feisty and determined woman. She worked hard and long to recover from a stroke that affected her right side, re-learning how to write and crochet with her left hand. She always had a joke or riddle in her pocket and truly enjoyed kibitzing with all the staff at Bedford Manor whom she adored.
We wish to thank all the staff at Bedford Manor for their respect and kindness not only shown to our mom but to us as a family.
I’m sure you have some card games planned already mom and I know dad has already beat you at your “dice” game. We love you both and are happy you are once again reunited.

Today I prayed for angels
To guard you night and day
I prayed that they would hover near
And keep all harm away
So if you hear the swish of wings
Or feel a gentle touch
You’ll know God heard my prayer today
And loves you very much.

There will be a family memorial in the spring and mom will be laid to rest with dad in Castlegar BC.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation in memory of Mom to the Heart and Stroke Foundation 201 – 635 Victoria St Kamloops BC V2C 2B3

Friends from his school years stayed in touch over all the years and many visits to the Kettle Valley kept these friendships vibrant. In 1937, the family moved to Vancouver Island, first to Parksville and then to Victoria.
In 1944 Geoff followed his brothers into the army, volunteering for the Canadian #1 Special Wireless Group, which saw service in New Guinea and Australia. Again, strong friendships were made during these years and several reunions were held with two being hosted by Geoff and Shirley at their ranch in Pinantan. Upon his return from military service, Geoff completed his high school at Victoria College and, following in his father’s footsteps, joined the BC Forest Service in 1947. Geoff attended the BC Forest Service Ranger School in Surrey in 1955 and worked as Deputy Ranger in Salmon Arm, and Forest Ranger in Alexis Creek and Blue River before serving in the Kamloops District Office until 1965.
As Forest Ranger in Alexis Creek, Geoff was instrumental in the creation of a protected nesting area for White Pelicans at Strum Lake, now part of White Pelican Provincial Park.
In 1957, Geoff met Shirley, the love of his life, in Kamloops. They were married in 1959 and lived in Alexis Creek and Blue River before moving to Westsyde in Kamloops. In 1964 they bought their ranch east of Pinantan Lake, naming it Jay Springs Ranch, which began with a herd of Brown Swiss dairy cows before they decided to focus on raising sheep. The family continues to reside and raise sheep at Jay Springs to this day.
Many long-term Pinantan residents will remember Geoff from his years as a school bus driver once kids started to be transported to Kamloops for school.
In 1976 Geoff was honoured to be chosen as a Nuffield Farming Scholar and travelled to the UK to study British farming practices. As always happened with Geoff, more life long friendships were made; he and Shirley travelled to many countries attending Nuffield reunions and hosted several fellow scholars at Jay Springs Ranch.
His love of birding and the wonders of the natural world led him to be a founding member of the Kamloops Naturalist Club and an avid participant in bird counts throughout the region. Birding was a constant activity on any walk, drive or holiday trip and anyone with him on the trip would learn from his vast knowledge.
Geoff was committed to public service. He served two terms as a director for the TNRD, was Chair of the Agriculture Advisory Committee of the PNE, sat on numerous boards and committees and was active in many organizations such as the BC Sheep Breeders Cooperative and the Kamloops and District Woodlot Association.
The family is eternally indebted to the wonderful care aides, nurses and staff at The Hamlets who cared for Geoff as he struggled with failing health and dementia through his final months. Thanks are also due to Dr. Waller and Dr. Boughton for their care.
A celebration of Geoff’s life will be held at Jay Springs Ranch in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Royal Canadian Legion “Poppy Trust Fund” would be appreciated.

He is survived by his loving wife Marie; three daughters Muriel (Doug) Wright of Prince George, Louise (Mack) Seaman of St. Albert, Alberta and Germaine (Willy) deCraene of Ashcroft; three sons Gerry (Elaine) of Leduc, Alberta, Julian (Karen) of Port Coquitlam and Ron (Oi) of Ban Tha Chang, Thailand; eleven grandchildren, five great grandchildren and his brother Leo.
Orance was predeceased by his parents Amedee and Angelina, and his five brothers Adrien, Aurel, Laurent, Bruno and Lucien.
Born August 11, 1925 in St. Front, Saskatchewan, Orance joined the Navy in 1944 and served on the HMCS Huron. He returned to St. Front after the war ended and started courting Marie Picton, who he married on June 14, 1948. While raising their six children, he worked as a diamond drill operator in Ontario and Manitoba, and a street-car driver in Winnipeg, while Marie held down the fort in Bellsite, Manitoba. They moved to 100 Mile House, B.C. in 1966 where he worked at the Hendrix Lake Mine, diamond drilling and at the Weldwood Plywood Plant until its closure in 1984.
Orance and Marie then moved to Fort Nelson, B.C. where he worked for Tackama Forest Products until his retirement in 1991. Retirement saw them living in Okanagan Falls, Ashcroft and finally Kamloops, and gave them the opportunity to travel to Hawaii, the Caribbean, France, Japan and Thailand.
Although always a hard worker, devotion to his church and his family is what truly defined him. A quick wit, he always had a joke or amusing anecdote in his heart to share. He was happiest when surrounded by family, friends, laughter and good food, especially Marie’s pie. He mastered the art of a good nap, and graciously passed this skill to his descendants.
No matter where in the world he went, he could strike up a conversation with a perfect stranger and within minutes discover a common acquaintance.
Prayers will be recited on Friday, January 27, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. The Reverend Father Peter Nguyen will celebrate the Funeral Mass in the church on Saturday, January 28 at 11:00 a.m. Private Interment will take place in the Ashcroft Cemetery.
Should friends desire, donations to a charity of donor’s choice would be appreciated in his memory.
