Ethel Marion Finnigan

Ethel Marion Finnigan (nee Philcox)

March 11, 1915 – September 4, 2010

Ethel passed away, peacefully at Gillis House at the age of 95. She is survived by her four children: Bill (Helen) Finnigan, Doris (Clorist) Bourque, Alice (Ed Robinson) Lott, and Evelyn (Richard) Paterson, one sister Margaret (Bryan) Bamford, 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 25 great-great- grandchildren, one brother-in-law, three sister-in-laws, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Emile Joseph Finnigan in 1995 and eight of her nine siblings.

Mom was born in Red Deer, Alberta and moved at age five to Maillardville, B.C., where she spent her childhood.  Here she met and married Emile. They moved to Surrey, B.C. in 1939, where they raised their family in the house Dad built. They returned to Maillardville, after their children left home, to manage their apartment building.  Eventually, in 1987, they settled in Merritt, B.C.

Mom spent her life as a homemaker. In the early years of raising her family she taught herself to sew, knit, and crochet. She was very proud to be a member of the Merritt Legion and enjoyed her visits with the members.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Parish in Merritt, B.C.  The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the caring staff at Gillis House for the excellent care given to mom during her six-year stay.
