On Thursday, March 18, 2010, Allan Frederick Whitmore passed away peacefully at Kamloops at the age of 62 years. He survived by his loving mother June Helwig and step-mother Shirley Whitmore; his three brothers Fred Jr. (Vicki), Ed (Lena) and Ted (Diane) and sister Gloria (Ray), as well as many nieces and nephews. Allan was predeceased by his father Fred Whitmore Sr.
Allan was a big man, with a big heart. When the cards were dealt, Allan played them, and he played them hard.
In his early 20’s Allan worked for the Forest Service and in 1976 started in the taxi cab business with his father. Allan was a proud member of the “Taxi Cab Family” for many years in Kamloops until his retirement. Allan’s mother, June Helwig was moved to Overlander Extended Care Home in Kamloops a few years ago and Allan made every effort to make sure her needs were looked after. He would visit with his mother on a daily basis when he was feeling up to it and thoroughly enjoyed being by her side.
Allan loved music, and enjoyed playing his guitar for the many parties that were held with his family and friends.
Allan was a “True Bachelor” and lived life to it fullest. He was a calm, affectionate man and loved to spend time “having a good time”.
His one true love was his cat “Mickey” whom he adored. We would like to thank Allan’s good friend “Lil” for being a good friend to Allan for many years and assisting us in keeping “Mickey” comfortable during this difficult time. Keep Allan’s memories close to your hearts.
Good-bye, big fella, we will miss you.
A Celebration of Allan’s life will be held on Friday, March 26, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Schoening Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
Should friends desire, donations to the S.P.C.A., 1211 – 8th Street, Kamloops, BC
V2B 2Y3 in memory of Allan would be appreciated.
Just to say that Al will be greatly missed. I will fondly hold his guitar playing, song singing, story telling, homemade beer, lama jerky, respect for nature, his big heart and his warm smile in my memories. When I look out of my window at the picnic table under the old apple tree in his yard I feel sad to think that I will not see him sitting there again, but I smile when I think of all the good laughs that were shared there. To Al’s family and friends, my thoughts are with you. May we all smile in our memories of Al and feel blessed to have known him.

We can’t think of Allan without hearing his laughter. We remember his humour and the times when we visited Kamloops his happiness at seeing his extended family. Uncle Fred and Allan are somewhere right now having a good laugh and smile.
May he receive many blessings and his extended family, our prayers are with you all. R.I.P.
RIP Unlce Al, Rest in Peace, keep Grandpa Company up there
