Lisa died peacefully at Lac Le Jeune surrounded by her family on Saturday, April 24, 2010. Lisa is survived by her husband, Dr. Andrew Wynne and sons Evan and Foster. She also leaves her devoted and loving mother Lila Van Schie of Lac Le Jeune, brothers Brian Van Schie, and Andrew Van Schie both of Ontario, father and mother in law Thomas and Betty Wynne of Coquitlam and sister in law Mary (Michael) Sturrock of Vancouver, nieces and nephews David, Samantha, Robert and Alison. Lisa was predeceased by her father Cornelius Van Schie in1998.
Lisa was born in Timmins, Ontario and her family later moved to North Bay, Ontario where she spent most of her growing years. She obtained her Medical Degree from the University of Western Ontario. She met her husband Andrew, during their Family Medicine Residency training. They both practiced medicine in Merritt and then Kamloops. Lisa was a founding member of the Thompson Valley Family Obstetrics
Group at Royal Inland Hospital, where she took great pleasure in bringing many new lives into the world.
Lisa excelled in sports which included tennis, triathlons, running and swimming. Nordic skiing was her passion. One of the highlights of her skiing career included winning a gold medal in the World Master’s Nordic Ski Championships in Lake Placid, New York. She married her husband, Andrew on that same day, March 7, 1998.
Lisa was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2001 shortly after the birth of her second son.
Her boys Evan (1998) and Foster (2001) were gifts that she celebrated for many years, despite her continuing battle with cancer.
Milestones were reached that were unexpected because of her determination, love and desire to see her boys grow into adults. These milestones include witnessing the boys swim across Lac Le Jeune, ride the bus together to and from school, camp to many beautiful areas including trips to the Grand Canyon, Alaska and most recently a round trip across Canada. These memories were created with her boys because of her endless love and strength.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to family, friends, health professionals and numerous other people that have shared in Lisa’s courageous journey. The last few months were challenging for Lisa, but with help of family and multiple caregivers she was able to die at home surrounded by peace, tranquillity and love.

BARBARA EVELYN STRINGER
1926 – 2010
Evelyn passed away quietly at the Overlander Senior Residence on the evening of April 23, 2010. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband George, daughters Joyce Hyam (Bob), Shirley Torreggiani, Sheila Bennett and Christine Dinicol (Bill), son Shane Stringer (Jen) and her twin brother Art Fisher from Salmon Arm, BC. Her older sister Helen Beemish left us a few years ago. Her seven grandchildren including Sandi, Erin, Kristopher, Michael, Stephen, Mark and Lisa. She also leaves behind four great grandchildren.
Evelyn was born in Armstrong hospital and lived for a few years in Armstrong. Most of her childhood years were happily spent at Shuswap Falls, a few miles beyond Lumby, BC. Her father worked at the power plant at Shuswap Falls. Evelyn attended school in Lumby and later moved to Vernon where she worked at The Bay. It was there she met her husband who was attending the Officer Training School in 1945 and they were married in 1946. Evelyn or Barbara as many called her, was a wonderful mother and worked hard at raising her family. There was a lot of sickness in those years but she was always there for her children.
As the family got older she took up Curling with a passion and was quite proficient at the game. In 1971, playing 3rd for Kelly Carin, she helped win the Provincial Curling Crown and completed nationally in New Brunswick. The team was runner-up to the national title.
Evelyn loved her garden and spent hours tending her flowers and watching the many birds that visited her birdhouses, feeders and bird baths. She enjoyed knitting, quilting and making pictures with needlepoint to give to her family to show her love. These treasured keepsakes are on display at the homes of her family. Evelyn was an avid hockey fan, loved to watch the Vancouver Canucks on TV and enjoyed listening to sports talks involving the Canucks.
Apart from her wonderful personality, she was always very organized. She was a great partner to her husband George for 64 years and a wonderful mother to all of her children.
She will live in all of our hearts and will be sorely missed.
A Celebration of Barbara’s life will be held on Friday, April 30, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the Schoening Funeral Chapel with Canon Jack Phelps officiating.
Should friends desire, donations to the S.P.C.A., 1211 – 8th Street, Kamloops, BC V2B 2Y3 would be appreciated as she was a firm supporter.
